September 28, 2008 will see the debut of the Singapore Grand Prix as part of the ever-growing Formula 1 championships.   The first of a five year deal to host the event.

As host in the 2008 FIA Formula One World Championship, Singapore is preparing to stage a street race circuit in the Marina Bay area. The race will be run in an anti-clockwise direction and will be held at night - a first in the history of the Grands Prix. High powered lighting will be used which, in addition to the safety benefits, will also be an aid to the televised coverage of the event and the fact that it is to be held at night will make it available to a wider live, worldwide audience.

The fact that there is a Malaysian Grand Prix, only a few hundred kilometres away, did not pose a deterrent to the decision and, as the two races are months apart it is unlikely that they will present serious competition to one another. It is anticipated that the race will result in an enormous boost to tourism, not only during the race week-end but will have a general positive effect.

The excitement of Formula One motor racing has always drawn the crowds and with the addition of Lewis Hamilton to the scene during the 2007 season, interest has increased even further.
